Ecotone:
"....Forest do not exist in a vacuum. Most forests are surrounded by
different types of habits such as varying aged fields, croplands, or
residential areas. The boarder between two types of habitats, such
as where a forest meets a field is called an ecotone. Ecotones are
composed of a mixture of species from the neighboring habitats but
are, in their own way, unique.......The species richness of ecotones
is often higher than that of either the bordering habitats because
the ectone contains species from both habitats"1
There's plenty of water in the area, while Lake Nipissing and the French
river get plenty of attention there are mighty and majestic rivers and lakes
that see no fishing pressure.
The author has fished a stretch of river for a
week and not seen another soul, there's bliss and peace in this that cannot be
matched.
West Nipissing is a relatively new place formed January 1st 1999
amalgamating seventeen former towns villages and unorganized communities. It
is the most bilingual community in Ontario with over 73% of its population
fluent in English and French.
The people and culture of the area is a real mix, in the authors opinion
the folks of the area can only be described as salt of the earth,
genuine and warm.
