Cache BayCache Bay, or Saganagons Lake, is located near Sturgeon Falls and boasts a large wetland conservation area. Named Cache Bay by early voyageurs, fur traders found it to be a natural hiding place to cache their supplies. Closely linked with Sturgeon Falls in both geography and history, the Hudson’s Bay Trading Post and the Sturgeon House River Museum are both halfway in between the two towns and a kilometer from Lake Nipissing. The museum features a blacksmith’s shop, a pioneer home from 1898, and a nature walk that highlights a beaver lodge, bird watching, and wildflowers. Useful InformationThe Cache Bay wetland has been a protected conservation area since 2002. The wetland is an important breeding area for waterfowl and provides excellent spawning and nursery habitat for Lake Nipissing fish populations. |
